Luxury Transport for Residents
April 11, 2017Established by Mary and Philip Davis, Nyton House Residential Care Home has been serving the Chichester district for 41 years.
The Beginnings of Nyton House
The story behind Nyton House starts with two sisters (triplets from Portsmouth, born 1933) who were trailblazers in the private Care Industry. Mary and her sister Joy started West Wittering Private Nursing Home in 1975 together with their husbands Philip Davis and Stuart Hillary. Having established an exceptional reputation for quality care, Mary and Philip opened a further three Care Homes in the Chichester area with Nyton House acquired in 1977.
Nyton House Remains in the Family
Nearly 40 years since Nyton House Care Home was founded, brother and sister Harvey Hillary & Felicity Hillary-Warnett (niece and nephew of Mary) have taken over the family business to ensure it continues to provide personal centred care in the community. Sadly, Mary Davis passed away last year having been cared for at Nyton House by Joy, her younger sister Margaret, and the staff for twelve months. “It’s testament to how we run our care home “Registered Manager, Felicity enthuses, “we care for all our residents as if they were our own family members and loved ones, with dignity and respect. Mary was a wonderful woman who cared for so many people in her lifetime. I’m proud of how we looked after her in her final days”.
What Makes Nyton House Special
Nyton House is different in so many ways from purpose built Commercial Care Homes. “We have a beautiful Home” Felicity comments, “A Grade 2 listed, Queen Anne building situated in 3 ½ acres of private parkland. We encourage all our residents to furnish their rooms with their own furniture and treat us as a home from home. We have a variety of room specifications, some with wonderfully grand period features and nearly all of our rooms look out over the grounds and surrounding fields”. We also have two independent living apartments catering for individuals or couples who want to retain their freedom with the assurance that care is nearby”.
For our residents to be happy we focus on the quality of our Staff and the care they provide, our Food, Accommodation, and the Surroundings. We’re proud of our seasonal menu with our in-house Chefs recently awarded a Gold Eat Out Eat Well Award. The gardens are beautiful and change with the seasons. There is so much for residents to do and enjoy at the care home, we have a lake, orchard, kitchen garden and even an artist’s studio. The home also has two vehicles allowing us to offer frequent offsite excursions to the Theatre and local gardens.
Felicity Hillary-Warnett, initially a trained nurse, has been the Registered Manager of Nyton House for the last 10yrs. Harvey Hillary has recently made a remarkable switch from Head of High Performance at the Royal Yachting Association where he has helped deliver Olympic Medals at the last three Olympic and Paralympic Games. Harvey Hillary, Director notes; “There’s so many parallels to how we would run a multidisciplinary-team to deliver the best support to each athlete on an individual basis”. “You can absolutely deliver high-performance in Care and that’s something we aspire to provide at Nyton. Our hope is to become a Care Quality Commission Outstanding Home in the next year and continually refine our service and care. Most importantly, my sister and I want to be able to do justice to our auntie Mary’s legacy and provide exceptional care to residents in the Chichester area”.
